2024 Alumni Award Recipient: Gail Hudson

The Alumni Award holds a long standing tradition in the Department of Horticultural Science. Awarded annually at the Kermit Olson Memorial Lecture to those recognized for their outstanding contributions to research, scholarship, leadership or their chosen profession. This year, the department is delighted to award the 2024 Alumni Award to Gail Hudson!

Gail Hudson is a national award-winning and multiple Emmy® award-winning journalist, writer and creative storyteller, researcher, and video producer with a 35 year career in the broadcast and media relations industry. Gail received her Masters of Professional Studies in Horticulture in 2017 and is a member of the MN State Horticultural Society Board. She has produced horticulture-related videos for Extension clients, writes for gardening publications and speaks on a wide-range of gardening topics. She is also a garden consultant and garden designer for homeowners. Today Gail owns Gail Hudson Media, a video and media company offering clients a team of photographers, editors and technical staff with national exposure and experience.

Gail was recognized for her distinguished achievements at the annual Kermit Olson Memorial Lecture on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024. Her lecture, “From TV News to Horticulture: Cultivating Life's Stories”, discussed her passion for telling people-oriented, forward-thinking, relevant stories about the latest horticultural issues impacting gardeners and the green industry.
