Biography

I was born in Minneapolis and grew up in the west suburbs of the Twin Cities. I studied chemistry at Gustavus Adolphus College and did research studying the photodegradation of herbicides on corn leaf plants. I got my Ph.D. at Iowa State in analytical chemistry and worked on various projects, including biofuel pyrolysis, antimicrobial resistance testing and mass spectrometry imaging of plant tissue, mainly corn.

At the UMN, I am using stable isotope labeling and mass spectrometry to study the metabolism of tryptophan in monocots in the context of pyridine nucleotide biosynthesis. I also work on developing data analysis workflows for stable isotope labeled mass spectrometry data using python.
