November 16th is Give to the Max Day, Minnesota’s statewide day of giving. This year we are raising money for our undergraduate students studying plant science through the Colin O’Neill Scholarship Fund! The Colin O’Neill Scholarship Fund provides undergraduate plant science majors with financial support and an opportunity to participate in the Landscape Scholars Internship program. This experience offers students a chance to explore new areas of plant science, networking opportunities, and firsthand horticultural experience under the guidance of horticulture professionals.
This year Connor Hennen, a junior plant science major, received the Colin O’Neill award and spent the summer working in the Landscape Scholars Summer Internship program. “Education is very expensive, and this scholarship is helping me to be able to afford college”, Hennen reflects on being selected as a recipient for the 23/24 academic year.
Thanks to the Colin O’Neill scholarship, Hennen was able to expand his hands-on experience in the horticultural industry and affirm his choice to study plant science. “My internship at the MN landscape arboretum has shaped my academic career by increasing my confidence in my decision to study plant science and gave me the opportunity to meet many professionals working in the field.”
