Areas of Interest
Lawn Water Conservation, Irrigation Technology, Residential Lawn Care, Low-input Turf
Two things I have always enjoyed learning about are water conservation and turfgrass. From a young age, water fascinated me because it plays an important role in every person's life. After moving to Utah, that important role became even more apparent as I learned our water resources are often threatened. My interest in turfgrass began as a sports fan. I wanted to know how they mowed cool patterns into baseball fields and how a golf green could be so smooth. I combined these two interests when, while driving, I saw an irrigation system watering a lawn during a rainstorm. I couldn't believe what I saw and thought to myself, there has to be a more efficient way to water a lawn. Fortunately, in my current position as lawn water conservation educator, I get to research both of these topics and share that knowledge with others.
I enjoy teaching and showing others the value or water conservation techniques and lawn care best management practices. While aiding in the research of such topics with the University of Minnesota turf group, my main goal is to share what we are learning with the Twin Cities Metropolitan community. You might see me at community-sponsored education events, a local farmers market, city council meetings and are almost guaranteed to see me at the Minnesota state fair. Hope we run into each other soon.
