Baylee Miller

My role as a researcher is to provide support for overall breeding program efforts, including crossing, propagation, fruit evaluation, and performing research projects to discover the genetic components of traits. Using traditional breeding methods as well as marker-assisted breeding methods, my work aims to make the breeding process more efficient and to help capture and stack desirable traits in our apple seedlings.

I began working in the fruit breeding lab under James Luby while I pursued my bachelor's degree, and shortly after I continued my education to seek a master's degree while being advised by Dr. Luby. During my time as a graduate student, I began working full time as a Researcher 2 for the lab. My role in the group has evolved over time, giving me exposure to all aspects of the breeding program. This experience in the group has allowed me to become a well-rounded member, serving as a contact point for graduate students, undergraduate students, and the team out at the research center. As I continue developing my skills and knowledge, I am eager to aid others and provide insights on future projects and breeding efforts.
