My research seeks to quantify tradeoffs between perennial ryegrass seed production and turfgrass quality, with the goal of identifying selectable traits that can minimize these tradeoffs in a breeding program. I have also been working to quantify rusts and have developed a novel and open source image analysis pipeline. This system is being applied directly to my research on plant microbe interactions which seeks to understand the impact of the fungal endophyte, Epichloe festucae var. lolii, on rust infectivity. Finally, I am currently leading undergraduate research that explores methodologies for inoculating ryegrass with novel endophyte strains.
